How Branding Affects your Local SafeHouse Files

When you run the Branding Wizard and select either to create a new branding group, or to brand with or update an existing branding group, one of the things the wizard does in the course of carrying out these tasks is to embed the subject .BRAND file into the local copy of SafeHouse installed on your PC.

The effect of embedding the .BRAND file into your local files is identical to having gone through the extra steps of creating a customized SafeHouse Setup program which includes the .BRAND file and then re-installing SafeHouse on your PC. We're just making things a little bit easier for you by taking care of this automatically so you don't have to.

If you're working with multiple groups and happen to create several groups in succession, it might occur to you that as each group is created your local files are being changed to reflect the characteristics of that last group. This is exactly right!  But this really isn't of any consequence because SafeHouse doesn't mind this at all; and if you want to restore your local files to belonging to a specific group, the Branding Wizard can do this for you using the middle option on the Select Branding Task tab.

Why is this Helpful?

The reason this is an important step to include when creating new groups is that you always want to test your handiwork out before deploying it to live workstations. By simulating the embedding (or branding) that takes place during the deployment process here and now, you're able to immediately test your new group on your own machine without needing to go through the extra steps of creating a custom SafeHouse Setup program using the Deployment Wizard.

Of course, at some point you'll still need to create and test your final custom Setup program which incorporates your new group.
